The Joint University Council of Applied Social Sciences have conferred the award of Fellow on 6 leading public administration scholars. Dr Keith Baker, Professor Paul Carmichael, Professor Claire Dunlop, Professor Pete Murphy, Professor Edoardo Ongaro and Dr Mike Rowe were recognised for their outstanding contribution and leadership in the field of public administration.
The Joint University Council (JUC) is the UK Learned Society for public administration, public policy and social work. It’s mission is the promotion, development and coordination of the work of higher education institutions in the pursuit of education, training and research in public administration, public policy and social work. Today, the JUC represents the vast majority of higher education institutions in the UK in teaching and researching in these fields.
New Fellows are recognised for their contribution to the learned society and to the wider subject area following an extensive peer review process.
Dr Keith Baker is current co-editor of Public Policy and Administration (which is co-owned by the PAC and SAGE) and Associate Professor at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. His research encompasses multi-level governance, local government and policing.
Professor Paul Carmichael is Associate Dean (Global Engagement) in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Ulster University. Professor Carmichael is currently the PAC representative for the University of Ulster. He was Vice-Chair of the JUC Public Administration Committee from 2004-09. Professor Carmichael has written extensively on issues related to devolution and local government reform.
Professor Claire Dunlop is current co-editor of Public Policy and Administration (which is co-owned by the PAC and SAGE) and Professor of Politics and Public Policy at University of Exeter. Her research includes the impact of scientific knowledge, ideas and learning in the policy process, impact assessment, policy learning and accountability tools.
Professor Peter Murphy is Director of the Public Policy and Management Research Group at Nottingham Trent University and former Vice-Chair (Research) within the JUC Public Administration Committee. His research focuses on issues including performance management, governance, scrutiny, and value-for-money arrangements of locally delivered public services.
Professor Edoardo Ongaro is current co-editor of Public Policy and Administration which is co-owned by the PAC and SAGE) and Professor of Public Management at The Open University. His research focuses contextual influences and adaptation of public management practices to local circumstances as well as issues related to European public administration.
Dr Mike Rowe is Lecturer in Public Sector Management at University of Liverpool and outgoing JUC Treasurer. He co-founded (with Professor John Diamond) the Annual PAC Doctoral Workshop which runs alongside the PAC Annual Conference. His research includes areas such as accountability, urban regeneration partnerships, community land trusts, housing policy and policing.
