Social Policy Committee (SPC)

The Social Policy Committee (SPC) is the representative body of the HE departments in this subject field. By working closely with the Social Policy Association, the learned society for individual members, it provides the strength of both sides to co-ordinate action in support of the subject.

Subject development
Social Policy is among the most multi-disciplinary of the social sciences, and has developed strong theoretical foundations. The SPC is a vital forum through which the dynamic and distinctive nature of social policy teaching and research is communicated to official bodies and colleagues in related fields of scholarship.

Co-ordination
The SPC plays a key role in co-ordinating responses to consultations by funding and research councils, and for the nomination of subject representatives to councils and boards. It has sponsored and collaborated with studies to monitor the impact of Research Assessment Exercises and Teaching Quality Assessment.

Conferences
The SPC organises conferences and meetings on the development of teaching and research in social policy.

Publicity
The SPC publishes careers leaflets jointly with the SPA to promote the study of social; policy, and a Directory of research expertise for use by government, the media and others wanting access to experienced specialists in social policy.
